Original Pencil Paintings
I make art in multiple mediums as you can tell from this site.
These pencil paintings are inspired by a voice inside who wants to tell stories. Her name is Georg and she has been part of my life since childhood. These drawings are not illustrations that go with a narrative, although many of them inspire poetry after they are finished. They are self-contained image narratives that explore emotions, cultural experiences and dreams. They often begin with a dream and so they are created in dream-like color and clarity and may have bits of reality thrown in. I stopped doing them for years. Too much going on for me to dream, I needed reality and so I began to work in photography and other more concrete imagery in watercolor.
The voice of Georg which was silent for those years has been reawakened and I am once more making these drawings and ready to show past ones as well.
The process I use involves good quality rag paper or museum mount mat board, a range of graphite pencils from 2h to 9B, and Faber-Castell colored pencils. Each drawing consists of multiple layers of graphite building from the harder to the softer pencils adding value and depth to the image. Usually the colored pencil is added as a layer between graphite layers. The graying of the color gives it a unique hand-colored photo effect which invokes a dream-like experience. Each piece is then matted with 100% Rag museum mount mat board and framed.
Below are Drawings that also include poetry lines.
